Northeast U.S. Pattern Change
Saturday, September 2, 2023
Weather has been stellar thus far to start September, as high pressure remains solidified across much of the Eastern U.S. Aside from a brief chance of a shower later this evening, temperatures will begin to warm back into the mid-upper 80s across Long Island beginning tomorrow, with a noticeable increase in humidity as well as dew points begin to creep back up.
As we head into early next week, the area of high pressure that we've gotten used to will begin to break down, as part of the upper level ridging pattern will begin to retrograde west towards the Central Plains & Western U.S., while another part of it departs east over the North Atlantic. This will allow lower heights to retrograde west as well, centering itself over the Eastern U.S.
As a result, unsettled weather may return as early as Wednesday evening and continuing through at least mid-month. Temperatures will largely remain warmer than normal while under this pattern.

GEFS & EPS remain fairly optimistic considerable rainfall is on the way, as most locations in the Northeast have a good chance of exceeding 1" through mid-September:
Although there is no drought of concern, additional rainfall will be welcome nonetheless, given that some parts of NYC/Long Island remain below normal for the year.
