February 13th 24-Hour Storm
Wednesday, February 12, 2014
Snow will begin Thursday morning and last till early to mid afternoon for most before it flips to a mix then all rain. Areas east of Worcester will be above freezing at the surface which will likely result in very wet, heavy snow and rain eventually. Areas that can stay 32 or below at the surface have the chance to see some freezing rain and sleet which will definitely cut into accumulation potential. Areas Worcester and west have the best chances to pile up. Worcester will stay snow till mid to late Thursday afternoon where they will then flip to sleet or freezing rain as warm air begins to intrude aloft. Worcester may also see a brief period of light snow afterwards as winds shift NW before the storm moves out but at this point it depends on how much moisture is left. Boston may also see some light snow mixed in with some sleet Friday morning. Most of the precip should be finished no later than 10am Friday morning. My forecast is below. I think that higher elevated areas such as the Berkshires have the best chance at the isolated 14-15" as there is some pretty good lift over that area. This storm is going to be very windy so it will be pretty difficult to get accurate snow accumulation totals.
